Bone Grafting with L-PRF
To be considered a good candidate for dental implants, patients must possess an adequate amount of jawbone structure and density to support the implant(s) with the utmost safety and efficacy. For individuals who do not have sufficient jawbone density, a procedure known as bone grafting with L-PRF can sometimes be employed to aid in bone regeneration and/or add substance to the existing jawbone structure. For qualified candidates, this advanced technique may be able to create a solid foundation for dental implants while helping to enhance one’s overall oral health.
The Bone Grafting Procedure
At our practice, Dr. Michael Fulbright conducts bone grafting procedures using FDA-cleared leukocyte platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) – a revolutionary, all-natural material proven to help promote bone regrowth with exceptional quality and accelerated healing. To begin treatment, Dr. Fulbright will first draw a small amount of your blood and place it in a centrifuge right here in our office. The centrifuge then spins vials containing the blood at a particular angulation until a condensed clot of fibrin is separated from other natural elements within the blood. Once separated, this fibrin clot is flattened via an Xpression™ Box, which is designed to express serum in a controlled manner, effectively creating a thin, compressed matrix of highly concentrated healing factors.
Dr. Fulbright will then dip the platelet-rich fibrin matrix into a mixture of bone grafting material and excess serum collected from the bottom of the Xpression™ Box for added healing elements. Following the cleansing and sterilization of the treatment area, the PRF matrix and bone grafting material is carefully placed next to your existing jawbone structure, helping to stimulate the growth of new bone tissue around the graft for an ample amount of strength and density to successfully support a dental implant.
Ultimately, L-PRF is both a holistic and biocompatible technique, often enabling qualified patients to achieve faster-healing, better-quality bone structure than ever before. In addition to bone grafting, Dr. Fulbright can also utilize L-PRF to enhance sinus lift procedures for quicker healing and improved overall results.
